Catching Up With ... Colin Long

SARAMPAGE.COM caught up with Colin Long for a question and answer session...

How are you staying busy during the off-season?
I have been working out, visiting with my friends and family and helping my mother build a garden.

Are you fully recovered from your injury?
Yes, I am fully recovered. It was a long and difficult time but I am over it and I am able to work out and skate hard and I am feeling great now.

What did you take from last season despite not being able to play very much?
It was a good learning experience. I didn’t play much but I learned a lot like the details of living on your own and what it takes to be good at the AHL level.

What is your focus going into Coyotes training camp?
My focus going into camp is to come in very fit. I am just excited to play hockey again after being out so long. Sometimes I think we take for granted how lucky we are to be able to play a game we love for a living.

Two California players were drafted in the first round of the NHL draft this year.  Being from California, are you surprised how much the game has evolved in such a short period of time?

I am not surprised, since the late 1980s there have been a lot of good players coming out of California. It started when Gretzky got traded to the L.A. Kings and it has just kept growing since then. Also, with Anaheim getting a team it has gotten even bigger.  It’s pretty cool.
