What an experience last night was. The energy and atmosphere was electric. The building was alive and at times it was so loud you could not hear the guy beside you.
The team came out with a ton of energy and at times were a little jumpy with the puck, guilty of running out of position to finish hits. Shane Doan was a horse and was as physical as I have ever seen him.
Detroit took advantage and went in to the first intermission with a 2-1 lead. Phoenix was hot on the power play and scored early in the second to tie the score. From that moment on the crowd was awesome and the team drew from their emotion.
Derek Morris scored on the power play early in the second and that was all they needed. From that point on the Coyotes went to work. They were relentless with their puck pursuit and second effort. Ilya Bryzgalov was solid down the stretch and the sell out whiteout crowd went home happy. A Great start but still lots of work to do.
I have been on the ice with the extra players and we are trying to keep them ready if they are needed. We are skating at Jobing.com arena, usually later in the afternoon after the Coyotes are gone. It is exciting here, the fans are excited, the players are excited and we all hope that this continues for a couple of more months!
