Rampage Drop OT Decision to Iowa 2-1

Box Score | Game Notes

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 25, 2014) – The San Antonio Rampage (15-21-2-4) fell for the second-straight night to the Iowa Wild (19-16-3-3) 2-1 in overtime before a crowd of 7,892 at the AT&T Center.

Derek Nesbitt scored his first goal for the Rampage at 9:32 of the first to open the game’s scoring. Ryan Whitney and Joey Crabb collected the assists on Nesbitt’s tally, giving Whitney two assists in his last two games. Michael Houser made 31-of-33 saves in the defeat.

Despite spending the 2008-09 season with the Rampage, Nesbitt has spent the last four and a half seasons scoring against them, most recently with the Oklahoma City Barons. In his third game with the Silver and Black since the Jan. 17 trade that sent him and Ryan Martindale to San Antonio, Nesbitt finally turned all his scoring into a positive for the Rampage.

At the 9:32 mark of the first, Whitney sent in a shot from the blue line, and Nesbitt was there to tap the rebound home past Iowa net-minder John Curry. The goal was the winger’s 11th on the year, and first in a Rampage uniform since 2009.

The Wild would get an extended 5-on-3, but were unable to convert, and trailed the Rampage heading into the first intermission.

Halfway through the second, Marc Hagel tapped in a Jake Dowell rebound, beating Houser at 9:21 to knot the game at 1-1. Both teams got chances with the extra man, but neither could make anything happen, and opened the third locked at one.

A slow third period gave way to overtime for the second night in a row, and it was Kyle Medvec who cashed in on the power play just 2:26 into the bonus period, giving the Wild the 2-1 win.

The Rampage went 0-for-4 on the power play, giving up one power-play goal against as Iowa went 1-for-8. Shots were 33-26 in the Wild’s favor.

The Rampage will host the 2013 Calder Cup Champion Grand Rapid Griffins tomorrow on the first Express-News Sunday Funday of the new year. Individual and season tickets can be purchased at the Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554, or online at sarampage.com.
