Box Score | Game Notes

SAN ANTONIO (April 16, 2013) – Rampage goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris turned aside 48 shots, but the Western Conference-leading Texas Stars (43-20-5-6) tallied a late game-tying goal in the third period and went on to defeat San Antonio (29-36-2-7) in a shootout, 3-2, on Tuesday night at AT&T Center in front of 6,732 fans.

The Rampage were outshot, 51-15, in the game, but held a 2-1 lead before Travis Morin lit the lamp on the power play with 1:21 left in regulation. With the defeat, San Antonio finished the 12-game season series against Texas with a 2-9-0-1 record.

Rookie forward Jared Gomes scored his third goal in as many games and extened his career-high point scoring streak to four games (three goals, one assist). Gomes is second on the team in scoring with 31 points, behind only Jon Rheault (46 points), who also recorded an assist on Tuesday.

Jack Combs lit the lamp for the second-straight game and now has 10 goals and 15 assists in his first 16 games for the Rampage since being acquired from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on March 15.

The Rampage opened the scoring for the first time in six games when Combs banged home a rebound off a shot from Rheault at 7:53. Scott Timmins also collected an assist on the play.

San Antonio was outshot, 15-9, in the opening frame, but held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, marking the first time in six games that the club held a lead at the end of the period.

Grumet-Morris turned aside another 15 shots in the middle frame, while the Rampage were only able to muster two shots on goal – tying a season low. The Rampage netminder made an impressive post-to-post save with seven minutes left and denied Brett Sonne when he stormed through the slot just over a minute later.

Despite being outshot, 30-11, through 40 minutes of play, San Antonio held a 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

However, the lead didn’t last long in the third period. Only 32 seconds into the frame, Sonne corralled the puck at the bottom of the right circle and fired a quick shot past Grumet-Morris to tie the game at 1-1.

The Rampage reclaimed the lead at 5:38 of the middle frame. Jed Ortmeyer won a battle along the boards before finding John Lee at the point. Lee fired a wrist shot that Gomes deflected past Texas Stars goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp and into the back of the net to give San Antonio the 2-1 lead.

Grumet-Morris had another strong period, but was unable to stop a shot by Morin with 1:21 left in regulation while on the power play.

Neither team was able to light the lamp in the in overtime and the game went to a shootout. Defenseman Alex Petrovic tallied the lone goal for the Rampage in the shootout, while Texas cashed in twice in the shootout to claim the victory.

Texas went 1-for-2 on the power play to wrap up the season series going 12-for-49 with the man advantage. For the first time this year, the Rampage did not have a power play opportunity, finishing 4-for-40 on the power play in 12 games against Texas.

The Rampage will wrap up the 2012-13 season with a pair of games starting on Friday at 7:30 p.m. against the Rockford IceHogs on a KZEP Dollar Drink Night. The Silver and Black will host their annual Fan Appreciation Night Saturday night in their season finale at 7:00 p.m. against the Houston Aeros.
