Rampage Return Four Players to Cincinnati

SAN ANTONIO (April 1, 2013) – San Antonio Rampage General Manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club returned forwards Josh Birkholz and David Pacan, defenseman Brian O’Hanley and goaltender Brian Foster to the team’s ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Birkholz, 22, earned his first recall of the season after attending training camp with the Rampage and suited up in four games for the Silver in Black. The third-round draft pick (67th overall) by the Florida Panthers has recorded 11 goals and eight assists for the Cyclones this season in 47 games with the club. Birkholz is in his first professional season after spending the last two years with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League where he recorded 47 goals and 39 assists in 138 combined games.

Pacan, 22, was recalled to San Antonio for the fourth time this season and has recorded two assists in nine games for the Rampage this year. Pacan is tied for the lead on the Cyclones with 38 assists and has tallied 52 points in 57 games, good for second on the team. Pacan, the sixth-round selection (177th overall) of the Chicago BlackHawks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, spent the last two seasons with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League and played in 133 games, recording 49 goals and 77 assists. During the IceDogs playoff run last year, Pacan averaged 1.00 points per game on eight goals and 12 assists in 20 games as the club made it to the Robertson Cup Finals.

O’Hanley, 28, suited up in 25 games for the Rampage and recorded six assists and 19 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 191-pound defenseman started the season in Cincinnati and played in 37 games for the Cyclones, tallying two goals and 17 assists in that span. The Quincy, Mass., native played in 44 AHL games last season between the Syracuse Crunch, Peoria Rivermen and Worchester Sharks, totaling four goals and four assists. O’Hanley recorded 14 goals and 43 assists in 166 games over the course of three seasons with the Cyclones (2008-11). He was drafted in the ninth round (#267 overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks.

Foster, 26, made his first start of the season for the Rampage in Friday’s 4-1 win over Grand Rapids and stopped a career-high 39 of 40 shots en route to being named First Star of the Game. Foster surrendered three goals in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Charlotte in his second start of the year for the Rampage. He has appeared in 32 games for the Cyclones this season and owns a 19-7-4 record. The 6-foot-2, 186-pound goaltender also sports a 0.907 save percentage and a 2.67 goals-against average for Cincinnati. Foster, who was drafted by the Panthers in the fifth round (161 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, played in 12 games for the Rampage last season, posting a 4-6-0 record.

The Rampage will face the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. on Tuesday on an All-You-Can-Eat Game at AT&T Center. Tickets for all remaining Rampage home games start at $10 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
