The San Antonio Rampage scored three power-play goals but ultimately fell to the Oklahoma City Barons by a score of 5-4 in overtime at the Cox Center on Saturday. With the loss, the Rampage’s Western Conference Semifinal series was knotted at 1-1. Oklahoma City got on the board first, at 1-0, with a goal from Chris VandeVelde at the 8:31 mark of the opening period. He picked up a loose puck at the front of the San Antonio net and lifted a backhander past Rampage backstop Jacob Markstrom to notch his first goal of the playoffs.

Bill Thomas evened the score for San Antonio at 1-1 with a power-play goal at 19:18 of the first. He took a cross-ice feed from Michal Repik and ripped a shot by Barons netminder Yann Danis to register his third goal of the postseason. San Antonio extended their lead to 2-1 2:59 into the second period when Mark Cullen cashed in for the Rampage’s second power-play goal of the contest. He took a pass from Tyson Strachan and drilled a slap shot by Danis for his third goal of the playoffs.

Oklahoma City had an opportunity to tie the game with a penalty shot at 11:01 of the second but the Barons’ Ryan Keller was denied by Markstrom and the game remained 2-1.

The Barons did get the tying goal they were looking for just 46 seconds later when a bouncing puck landed on the stick of Mark Arcobello, who swept the puck past Markstrom to knot the score at 2-2. The goal was Arcobello’s third of the playoffs.

Teemu Hartikainen regained the lead for Oklahoma City at 3-2 nearly two minutes later. While stationed at the front of the Rampage net, he took a centering pass from Josh Green and fired a wrister over Markstrom’s glove for his third score of the postseason.

Evan Barlow tallied San Antonio’s third power-play goal of the game and 12th overall of the postseason at the 10:16 mark of the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Alex Petrovic found Barlow by himself at the left post and Barlow shot the puck into an open net for his second marker of the playoffs.

Thomas registered his second goal of the night at 15:31 of the third to put San Antonio ahead 4-3. He recorded his fourth goal of the postseason with a shot from the high slot that found its way through Danis’ legs.

Magnus Paajarvi scored a power-play goal with 9.2 seconds remaining in the third to tie the game at 4-4 and send the contest into overtime. His blast from the top of the right circle went over Markstrom’s left shoulder and into the net. The goal was Paajarvi’s first of the postseason.

Green gave the Barons a 5-4 win 11:40 into overtime when he found a loose puck in the crease behind Markstrom and shot it into the Rampage net. The tally was his fourth of the playoffs.

Danis made 22 saves on 26 Rampage shots while Markstrom stopped 32 of the 37 Barons attempts he faced.

The Rampage and Barons will play Game 3 of their series on Monday at 7 p.m. (CST) as the series shifts to the AT&T Center. Tickets may be purchased by clicking here or calling a Rampage Representative at 210.444.5554.
