SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 28, 2017) – The San Diego Gulls (4-3-1-0) tallied four first-period goals en route to a 5-3 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (6-2-0-0) on Saturday at the AT&T Center.

San Diego wasted no time in the opening frame as Julius Nattinen found the back of the net 54 seconds into contest, giving the Gulls a 1-0 advantage. The Rampage tied the game at one at the 10:37 mark when Samuel Blais sent a wrister past Gulls netminder Leland Irving. San Diego regained the lead at 13:02 when Kevin Roy's shot rebounded off the left post and into the back of the net. The Gulls extended their lead to 3-1 when Sam Carrick collected a 5-on-3 power-play goal at the 16:46 mark. With 14 seconds remaining, San Diego registered its fourth goal of the period when Deven Sideroff took an open shot from the slot and beat Rampage goaltender Spencer Martin.

The Gulls added a second power-play goal at the 15:11 mark of the middle frame. Andy Welinski fired a knuckling puck through the Rampage defense and found the back of the net for his second of the season.

San Antonio opted for a change in goal to start the third period as Joe Cannata made his first appearance for the Rampage this season. The Silver and Black cut the lead to three at the 8:20 mark of the final frame when Felix Girard tipped in a Chris Butler shot from the blue line. After pulling Cannata for an extra attacker in the final minutes, Brady Shaw registered the first AHL goal of his career with 62 seconds remaining in the contest. San Antonio’s third-period rally ultimately fell short as the Gulls put an end to the Silver and Black’s five-game winning streak.
