SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 17, 2018) – Goaltender Ville Husso shut the door on 38 of Ontario’s 39 shots as the San Antonio Rampage (22-16-2-0) defeated the Ontario Reign (19-16-1-1) 3-1 on Wednesday at the AT&T Center.
San Antonio struck first 10:24 into the opening period when Chris Butler’s shot was kicked out to Alex Belzile who fired the puck past goaltender Cal Petersen for his third power-play goal in the last five games.
After a scoreless second period, the Silver and Black extended their lead in the opening minutes of the final stanza when Michael Joly skated past two defenders and sent a wrister from the slot into the back of the cage. Klim Kostin gave San Antonio a three-goal lead at 7:39 after he beat Petersen on a breakaway attempt that was set up by Rocco Grimaldi and Nicolas Meloche. Jordan Subban ended Husso’s shutout attempt in the final 25 seconds of regulation when he fired a slap shot from the right point, but the Reign rally fell short as the Rampage collected a 3-1 victory.
