Stars Outshine Rampage 5-1 in Cedar Park
CEDAR PARK, Texas (Feb. 3, 2018) – A four-goal third period propelled the Texas Stars (25-17-4-2) to a 5-1 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (24-18-2-0) on Saturday evening at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
The Stars were the first to light the lamp when Roope Hintz cleaned up a loose puck in front of the Rampage net at 11:18 of the opening frame. The contest remained scoreless until the 18:00 mark of the second period when Oskar Sundqvist banked a shot off the left post and behind Star goaltender Philippe Desrosiers to tie the game at one.
Texas regained the lead 44 seconds into the third stanza when Dennis Gurianov skated past two Rampage defensemen and beat netminder Ville Husso on his blocker side for his eighth goal of the season. Gurianov netted his second of the evening at 7:03 after Tommy Thompson found the winger open on the back side of the play. Austin Fyten added a fourth Stars goal at 12:20 of the final frame before Gurianov completed his first career hat trick at the 15:54 mark. Gurianov and Hintz found themselves on a two-on-none break after forcing a Rampage turnover, allowing Gurianov’s shot to go uncontested.
