Moments of the Year: Face Off Against Kids Cancer
The moments that make up a hockey season sometimes extend beyond what happens on the ice. sarampage.com takes a look back at the best moments of the 2015-16 season. We could probably make an entire feature consisting only of moments from the Face Off Against Kids Cancer program. Now in its seventh season, the Face Off Against Kids Cancer program pairs Rampage players with children from The Children's Hospital of San Antonio who are in various stages of cancer treatment or in remission. The children and their Rampage “buddies” participate in a series of events throughout the season with the goal of forming lasting relationships while raising awareness for childhood cancer in the San Antonio community.
This year's program kicked off with a night of pizza and games at The Chilren's Hospital, where the players met their buddies and their families for the first time and continued with a bowling night in December where each child was presented with a special holiday gift -- a new bicycle from Academy Sports & Outdoors. The buddies and their families were invited to a Rampage game in early January, and the team joined the group after the game for a little New Year's celebration. The group was treated to a special performance of the Sea Lion High show at Sea World in March, and the 2015-16 program culminated with the annual Face Off Against Kids Cancer game on April 9.
