Rampage Take on Roadrunners TONIGHT, 2/23
GAME PREVIEW: The San Antonio Rampage (26-21-6-0) continue their annual Rodeo Road Trip when they take on the Pacific Division leading Tucson Roadrunners (28-16-2-1) on Friday, Feb. 23 at 8:05 p.m. at the Tucson Convention Center. This will be the ninth overall meeting between the two teams, with San Antonio coming out on top with a 41-3-0 record in the previous contests. The Rampage have also held the Roadrunners to two-or-fewer goals in six of their last eight games, dating back to last season. Goaltenders Spencer Martin and Ville Husso have combined for a 1.95 goals-against average and .954 save percentage in two games against Tucson this season. Additionally, the Silver and Black have held the Roadrunners scoreless on the power play this season, stopping all nine of Tucson’s opportunities.
CLIMBING THE LEADERBOARDS: Rocco Grimaldi’s third-period goal on Feb. 18 against the Rockford IceHogs moved the forward to fourth all-time on the Rampage points list, surpassing former Rampage forward Dave Spina (121p). Additionally, Grimaldi is one goal away from tying Joël Perrault for the third-most goals in club history and two games away from passing Garrett Wilson for the seventh-most games played. The 5-foot-6, 160-pound forward ranks in the Top 10 in franchise history in goals (4th), assists (7th), points (4th) and games played (8th). Grimaldi leads the team with 14 goals this season and is third in points (25).
BETWEEN THE PIPES: Netminder Ville Husso has posted a 2.10 goals-against average and .940 save percentage over his past nine starts, collecting a 5-2-2 record over that span. During the nine games, Husso tallied his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the San Jose Barracuda on Jan. 25. The former 2014 fourth-round draft pick by the St. Louis Blues recorded a career-high 53 saves on Jan. 19 against the Tucson Roadrunners, marking the most saves by a Rampage goaltender since Dec. 2, 2006 when David LeNeveu collected 55 saves against the Chicago Wolves. Husso ranks first among the league’s rookie goalies in save percentage (.928) and goals-against average (2.39) and is top-10 overall in both categories.
FINDING A RHYTHM: Forward Reid Petryk recorded three goals in four games last week, including his first multiple-goal effort of the season in a 5-4 victory on Feb. 14 against the Milwaukee Admirals. The fifth-year pro also recorded his first shorthanded goal of the season on Feb. 17 against the Chicago Wolves, helping the Rampage to a 2-1 victory. Only two players on the active roster have recorded a multiple-goal game and a shorthanded goal this season, including the 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward.
LEADING THE TEAM: Forward Andrew Agozzino leads the active roster with 28 points (11g/17a) and has recorded four points (3g/1a) during this year’s Rodeo Road Trip. The 5-foot-10, 187-pound forward is tied with Grimaldi for the most power-play goals on the team (5) and is tied with Jordan Schmaltz for the most assists on the active roster.
RODEO ROAD TRIP LEADERS: Forward Reid Petryk leads the team with four goals through the first eight games of this year’s Rodeo Road Trip, while defenseman Jesse Graham leads the active roster with five points (2g/3a). Defenseman Chris Bigras leads the team with the most multiple-point games during the trip (2), collecting one goal and three assists in those two contests.
REMAINING RODEO ROAD TRIP SCHEDULE: San Antonio will play its next four games on the road before returning to the AT&T Center on March 2 to host the Chicago Wolves for the 15th annual Rampage Military Appreciation Night, presented by Grunt Style. the Silver and Black will take on the Tucson Roadrunners on Friday and Saturday and then travel to California to take on the San Diego Gulls on Feb. 27 and the Ontario Reign on Feb. 28, before heading back to the Alamo City.
