Silver & Black Give Back announced today the 20 student-led groups have been named semifinalists in the 2012-13 Team Up Challenge and each group has been rewarded with $2,500 to bring their community-based projects to life.
The Team Up Challenge is a youth-led service-learning initiative that encourages students to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the real world, bringing education alive in powerful ways. Students create projects that address needs that will help improve their community in one of five categories: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health & Wellness or Uniformed Services. In April, five champions will receive $20,000 each for their work in the community.

Brackenridge High School (Fitness Club), Briscoe Middle School (Science Club), Burbank High School (Student Council), Burch Intermediate (After School Care), Carson Elementary (Student Council), Crossroads-Environment(Community Helpers), East Central High School (Student Council), Edison High School (Science in Action), George Gervin Academy (5th Grade Coyotes),Harlandale High School (Student Council), Higgs, Carter, King Gifted and Talented Charter School (HCK Playground Project), Holmgreen Center (Community Service Club), Lowell Middle School (Science Club), MacArthur High School (Go Green Club), MacArthur High School (Mac Arthur PALS), Page Middle School (6th Grade World Cultures), Rhodes Middle School (National Junior Honors Society), S.J. Davis Middle School (National Junior Honors Society & PALS), Sam Houston High School (Sam Houston Young Leaders) and Whittier Academy (National Junior Honors Society).
