SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers Executive VP & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to terms with G Jacob Markstrom on a two-year contract.

“Jacob is a young and talented goaltender who gained valuable experience playing in Florida last year,” said Tallon. “We expect that he will continue to mature and develop and play an important role on our club next season.”

Markstrom, 23, has played in 31 National Hockey League games, all with Florida, posting a 10-19-2 record with a .906 save percentage.  In 23 games with the Panthers last season, he went 8-14-3, including making a career-high 44 saves on Mar. 2, in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers.

The 6-foot-6, 197-pound netminder also played in 32 games in San Antonio (AHL) last year, going 17-12-1 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.32 GAA with one shutout, before completing the season in Florida. Markstrom was named AHL Player of the Week on Dec. 9, after making 68 saves in a pair of wins against Abbotsford on Dec. 4 and Dec. 5.

The Gavle, Sweden native, was drafted by Florida in the second round (31st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
